Home batteries and solar: the questions behind a future ClimateCart range
Storage is worth exploring, but usable capacity, output, tariffs and backup capability need to be separated before buying.
Checked 7 October 2026. Future-range explainer. No current product availability promised.
Solar and storage belong in the same home-energy conversation as heat pumps, but they should not be bolted onto a shopping basket without a plan. This is a future-range explainer: it is not a claim that ClimateCart currently stocks a particular battery, has a supplier agreement or can promise an installation date.
Storage changes timing
Energy Saving Trust explains that a home battery can store solar electricity or charge using a time-of-use tariff. It also cautions that savings do not always justify the purchase cost. Those two ideas are a useful starting point: a battery shifts when energy is available, but the business case still needs your household figures. Read the current battery-storage guide.
Separate capacity from power
Ask for usable storage in kWh and supported charge/discharge power in kW. Those answer different questions: how much energy can be stored, and how quickly it can be delivered? Ask the designer to explain the proposed combination using your actual loads rather than a generic “whole-home” label.
Backup is a separate specification
Do not assume that a battery automatically keeps the house running during a power cut. Ask whether backup is included, which circuits it supports, how changeover works and what extra equipment or work is required. Obtain that scope in writing.
Compare scenarios, not slogans
A useful proposal compares the home without storage, with storage, and with any planned heat pump or solar addition. It should state tariff assumptions, export assumptions, losses and the usage pattern. Ask what happens if the tariff changes. A payback claim without those inputs is not a personalised forecast.
- Confirm installer competence, suitable location and applicable safety requirements.
- Check warranty conditions, capacity retention terms and service support.
- Distinguish a professionally designed home battery from portable power stations or plug-in solar devices.
